To offer hope, understanding, support, and advocacy to victims of sexual violence and their significant others, and to educate the communities of Penobscot and Piscataquis counties about all aspects of this violent crime

The terms rape, sexual assault, and sexual violence are often used interchangeably to describe a wide variety of abuses. Please note that this site frequently uses the term sexual violence in hopes that it will be inclusive of all experiences. Whether you have been affected by rape, incest, childhood sexual abuse, sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, or any other form of this violent crime, Rape Response Services strives to provide information that is meaningful to you.

You may notice the absence of statistics in these pages. While statistics do provide important information, their use can often distract people from the reality that there are actual people behind those numbers, each with her or his own unique experiences. While sexual violence is happening every day in increasingly large numbers, it is vital to recognize that one rape is too many, one child who has been violated is too much to tolerate, and one person who is unable to work or learn in an environment free from harassment must be a concern to us all.
